The Best Can Handle the Misses

Recently I have been going through a negative mental rut.

Perhaps it is because graduation looms ahead and I am not sure where my next step is going to be taken. It is the uncertainty that scares me the most, honestly.

But I can not let it get the best of me. For the past four weeks, I, unfortunately, let it get the best of me.

But I go back to one of my favorite past times to learn a lesson.

Let's take a chapter out of the golf career of Phil Mickelson.

How tough it must have been for "Lefty" to continue to play golf after getting so close to garnering a major championship from 1999-2003. Mickelson, in all four golf majors combined in those years (The Masters, The Open Championship, The U.S. Open and The PGA Championship), finished in the top 10 a whopping seventeen times without breaking through to win a major.

Until the 2004 Masters.

Phil finally got the monkey off his back and sank a birdie putt to win the tournament on the 18th green at Augusta National. Divine intervention? Pure talent? Taking care of unfinished business?

Call it what you want, but Phil Mickelson never quit. He never gave in to his own negative thinking.

And neither should we. When the going gets tough, keep on pushing through. Keep trying to get better.

And when we do that, we'll start seeing results, even though they may not be immediate.

Since then, Phil has four major championships to his credit. Three of those have been at The Masters.

All because Phil never gave in to his negative thoughts.

Neither should we.

Long time, no talk!

Hey Gang!

Hope all is well out in Bobcat country!

Just passing along a few thoughts and tid-bits:

1.Brand Yourself  Had breakfast with my broadcasting mentor and most importantly, friend, this past week, Bob Rathbun. Rathbun serves as the signature voice of Fox Sports Net South/SportSouth. We got to chatting about what it means to "brand yourself," and doing that in a positive way. I challenge all of you to brand yourself and to live out what you truly mean. Find something you enjoy and attack it with a positive vision. Mine if, of course, sports broadcasting! What's yours?

2. Bobcat Basketball It's true! Another exciting season of Georgia College basketball is just around the corner, folks! The women's squad will look to build on an NCAA Tournament berth and Peach Belt Conference Tournament Title, while the men will have more weapons and should be poised to make a deep run that hopefully ends up in the Big Dance. Stay tuned for more on the home front and on www.gcbobcats.com on GC hoops!

3. Beautiful Weather Enjoying this fall weather! Hope you all are too!

4. Buckling Down As GC soccer winds down, I would like to say "kudos" to this group of young ladies. Although the record does not indicate how the teams has played, a lot of things were learned by this young team. The Bobcats have truly buckled down and given their best effort night in and night out. Head Coach Hope Clark deserves a lot of credit for building a program that has talent and should be well off in the long run.

That's it for now. See you around!
